The Maté is a shrub from Latin America that grows between 500 and 700 meters above sea level. It has been known for millennia by the peoples of Paraguay and Argentina that consume its leaves in the form of infusion to ensure vitality and longevity. It is only in the sixteenth century that Westerners discovered the mate thanks to the Guarani Indians of Paraguay. If at the origin the mate leaves were chewed, they have been consuming for centuries in infusion.
The mate is traditionally drunk in a calabash with a filter pipe called the Bombilla, which makes it possible to consume the mate without removing the leaves of the infusion. The Maté has a very strong social role in some Latin American countries. Traditionally, the calabash thus passes with hand, because the tasting of mate is primarily a moment of community sharing.
