Les eaux florales

Floral waters

Floral waters are a true treasure of the plant kingdom. Much more than a sweet scent, each one has therapeutic properties for the skin. Moreover, they have been used for a long time as a natural remedy.

Definition and manufacturing

Let's first establish what floral waters are and how they are produced. Floral water, or hydrosol, is a liquid plant extract containing, to varying degrees, water-soluble elements (elements that are attracted to water) specific to this plant. The composition of each hydrosol varies depending on the plant chosen and possibly the extraction method.

Floral water is obtained during the manufacture of essential oil from the same plant. During the distillation of the plant, the essential oil is collected and leaves a portion of water, i.e. floral water. This hydrosol is therefore tinged with the scent of the plant, its properties and contains a very small part of its essential oil.

Use

Unlike essential oils, floral waters are gentle and can be used on just about anyone. Sensitive skin, irritated respiratory tract, animals, etc. On the other hand, caution is always required. If you have a particular health condition, for young children, pregnant women or others, ask a health professional knowledgeable in this matter.

Practical tip: before trying a new product on your skin, apply a sample to the crook of your elbow. You will then be able to see if you react to it.

For cosmetic use, use your floral water before applying treatment to your skin. Moisturizer, serum, mask, etc. The hydrosol prepares the skin to better receive the treatment. Also, it is perfect to give you a little boost of radiance when you wake up or after a long day in front of your computer. If the static makes you lose your temper, a few sprays in your hair, on your sweater or on your skirt and that's it.

Make your choice

Theoretically, there are as many hydrosols as there are plants. You will therefore find several types of floral waters on the market. While they have very common properties, they also stand out from each other thanks to the water-soluble compounds and traces of essential oil that they have retained during manufacturing. Here are some examples.

Rose floral water

Among the most popular, rose floral water is perfect for reducing the effects of skin aging and wrinkles. It is regenerating and healing and is ideal for skin with redness.

Neroli floral water (or orange blossom)

Neroli floral water is definitely a favorite for many because of its pleasant, slightly sweet smell. Having no connection with citrus fruit, orange blossom still has a scent very similar to that of orange. On the skin, it is refreshing and hydrating. Just like rose hydrosol, orange blossom water soothes redness. It is perfect for sensitive, fragile and reactive skin.

Peppermint floral water

Just like the plant, peppermint floral water is extremely refreshing. This is also one of the main reasons for its use. But it's not the only war! Peppermint hydrosol is also anti-bacterial and decongestant. It soothes redness and has been shown to be very effective in calming itchy skin. Warning, it can heat up on contact with mucous membranes, so be careful with your eyes.

Rosemary floral water

Rosemary is often associated with cosmetic care for men. Ladies, that doesn't mean it won't do a great job on your skin! We like rosemary floral water for its balancing function on the skin. For example, it is excellent for regulating sebum production. So, perfect for oily skin. Also, it is antioxidant and would have an action against blackheads.

Cornflower floral water

Although the cornflower is a tasty little fruit favored by Quebecers, cornflower floral water does not carry its delicious fragrance. Don't be surprised when you use it! Unlike all the other floral waters mentioned above, this one is not specifically used for skin care. We use it more for eye care!

Indeed, irritated, dark circles, tired eyes, even for puffiness, cornflower floral water is ideal. Soak two cotton pads (preferably reusable) and leave them on your eyes for a few moments. Feel the decongestant effect while relaxing!

Italian helichrysum floral water (Immortelle)

Italian helichrysum is a plant with powerful medicinal properties with regard to the circulatory system. Moreover, as an essential oil it is used to soothe bruises.

In floral water, its effect is the same for the face! It promotes blood circulation, so is ideal for skin with redness. It is regenerating and anti-aging in addition.

Witch hazel floral water

Witch hazel is a plant frequently found in facial care products. Mainly for tonics. It is generally suitable for all skin types, even the most sensitive and reactive. In floral water, it tightens pores and tones the skin.

Lavender floral water

Lavender is a plant with multiple functions. It is used for its calming, anti-inflammatory, deodorizing properties, etc. It also helps repel insects like mosquitoes and even lice!

In floral water when applied to the skin of the face, it promotes purification and balance. It is very suitable for oily and acne-prone skin. Also choose it to promote the healing of skin imperfections.

Labrador tea floral water

For a truly local cosmetic treatment, choose Labrador tea floral water! Few companies offer it however, but Divine Essence proudly uses the Quebec plant for your appreciation! It is anti-aging, purifying and detoxifying. Plus, its natural fragrance will make you feel like you're heading into the forest!

What's nice about floral waters is the variety. Have several at home and alternate them according to your wants and needs. Integrate them into your beauty routine and enjoy the effects!
