The biotin is vitamin B7, one of the water-soluble complexes of vitamin B, a group of nutrients essential for the proper functioning of metabolism, nerves and digestive functions. Because of its association with healthy hair, skin and nails, biotin is known as "beauty vitamin". Therefore, biotin is commonly located in many cosmetic and healthy products for the skin and hair. However, it can not be absorbed by hair or skin.

Biotin can come from beef, soy and egg yolk. It is also one of the vitamins synthesized by the beneficial bacteria present in the intestine. Therefore, the deficiency is rare. However, alcohol abuse, intestinal problems and pregnancy increase the risk of deficiency and the consequences are generally more serious than other vitamin deficiencies. A biotin deficiency mainly affects the skin and hair, with symptoms such as hair loss, dermatitis, color of greyish skin and rash around the nose and mouth.

The biotin acts as a coenzyme in the body which is necessary for the metabolism of fatty acids, amino acids and glucose. This means that when we eat foods that are sources of fat, protein and carbohydrates, vitamin B7 and biotin must be present to allow the conversion and use of these macronutrients for energy purposes.
