Canadian wild rice organic

Wild rice has a different botanical origin to other types of rice. It is not exactly a variety of rice, but rather the seed of an aquatic grass plant. Canadian wild rice is grown and processed without the addition of chemicals or additives, making it a unique natural food. Wild rice is richer in protein than ordinary rice, and this protein is of higher quality. Its fibre content is equivalent to that of brown rice. Wild rice is a source of phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, manganese, copper, vitamins B2, B3, B6 and folates.

Cooking:

• rinse rice with running water before cooking.
• Add 1/3 cup rice to 1 cup water.
• Bring it to a boil, cover and cook on low heat about 45 to 50 minutes. The grains should be split and show a white heart, but should not be curved (sign they are too cooked). If necessary, drain the rice at the end of cooking.

Conservation:

Wild rice will keep at least one year in an airtight container, sheltered from light and heat. In the refrigerator, cooked, we can keep it one or two weeks. Wild rice is also freezing very well.
