Recipe for aged cheddar bites

Ingredients for Aged Cheddar Bites recipe
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 large garlic cloves, pressed
- 1 egg
- 1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2.5 lbs ground beef
- 36 small cubes L'Ancêtre 3-year-old aged cheddar, about 1/2 inch each
- 1/3 cup plain yogurt or sour cream
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 tbsp. onion powder
- 2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp. ground pepper
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp. turmeric powder
- 1 pinch cayenne pepper
- 1 pinch steak spices
- Oil spray
Preparation for Aged Cheddar Bites recipe
Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F).
Place all ingredients in a large bowl, except cheddar cheese cubes, steak spices and oil. Add a few pinches of cayenne pepper. Mix well with your hands.
Shape into 36 balls, inserting a cheddar cheese cube into each. Make sure the cheese cubes are well sealed inside the dumplings.
Place dumplings on a large baking sheet lined with oiled aluminum foil.
Season generously with steak spices, then spray with oil.
Bake meatballs for 25-30 minutes, or until meat is cooked through.
Remove from the oven and serve immediately as canapés, appetizers with mesclun, or as toppings for pasta, submarines or even pizza.
Keep for 3 days in the fridge.
