Spicy cider recipe
Apple cider vinegar is loaded with health benefits. In fact, it's classified as a superfood. But before becoming a superfood, apple cider vinegar was simply apple cider! Usually, 10 months of fermentation are necessary to obtain a final "therapeutic" product of choice. Ideally, choose it organic, unfiltered, unpasteurized and with the mother to get maximum benefits.
To savor all its health benefits, here is our spicy cider recipe. If you've ever winced at the thought of drinking pure apple cider vinegar, this might help you enjoy it a bit more!
But first, a few of its health benefits
- Anti-inflammatory and antiseptic: it helps reduce cold and flu symptoms, mainly sore throats.
- Support for the digestive system: it promotes better digestion and better intestinal transit, helping to limit digestive discomfort such as reflux, gas, bloating, etc.
- Rich in probiotics: it contributes to the balance of the microbiota and the general health of the intestine.
- Rich in mineral salts: it is a drink of choice for athletes after heavy sweating. In addition, its high mineral content makes it an alkalizing food.
- Support for weight loss: although it's not really scientifically proven, apple cider vinegar has been used for a number of years to support weight loss. Some say it helps to burn fat and control appetite. One thing is certain, its digestive qualities will help its consumer to obtain that flat stomach feeling.
Ingredients for the spicy cider recipe
- 2 tbsp fresh ginger
- 2 tbsp fresh turmeric
- 1 lemon
- 1 orange
- 3-5 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tbsp black peppercorns
- 1 head of garlic
- 32 ounces Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar
- Honey or coconut nectar, to taste (optional)
Instructions for the spicy cider recipe
Peel and slice ginger and turmeric. Slice lemon and orange. Smash and peel garlic.
Add all ingredients to a large glass pitcher or Mason jar. Add apple cider vinegar. Cover the pitcher or jar securely (do not use a metal lid, as it can corrode from the vinegar).
Set the container in a dry, dark area and let it ferment for 2-4 weeks.
After the fermentation process is complete, strain the liquid and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. A dash of honey or other unrefined sweetener can be added to the mixture before consuming. Take as a shot, dilute in water or juice, or pour over food.
Tip: It's important that the container for the cider is cleaned thoroughly before use to avoid the growth of unwanted bacteria during the fermentation process.
