Gratinated apple tartlet
This gratinated apple tartlet recipe marries two classic flavors to perfection: apples and aged cheddar cheese. This simple combination brings together the comfort of warm apple pie and the richness of sharp cheddar, for a guaranteed taste treat.
Ingredients for the gratinated apple tartlet recipe
- 2 tbsp. tablespoon of L’Ancêtre organic salted butter
- 1/2 tsp. teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup coconut sugar
- Juice of 1/2 lemon
- 3 Cortland apples, peeled and cut into small cubes
- 4 3-inch cooked sweet pastry shells
- 2.5 ounces grated L'Ancêtre aged organic cheddar cheese
Preparation for the gratinated apple tartlet recipe
Preheat the oven to broil.
Melt the butter, vanilla and brown sugar in a pan over high heat. Bring until a golden color is obtained.
Add the lemon juice to the caramel and cook for 15 to 20 seconds.
Add the quartered apples and let them caramelize well. Turn every few minutes so that they are nicely browned.
Once caramelized, place the apples in the bottoms of the cooked tartlets. Add the cheese to each tartlet and bake for 1 to 2 minutes on the grill.
Serve immediately with excess caramel.
Suggestions
Serve with vanilla ice cream.
You can replace the apples with peaches.
Using a baking apple will give you a pie with firmer apple pieces (Lobo, Spartan, Empire).
